I am now 71 yrs young and have been in Australia since 1960. I have just been browsing your site and what memories came flooding back when I saw the photo of the Stork.
As a child my parents used to take me to Thornes Park we would walk from Horbury and take a picnic I remember the Band stand and listening to (I think it was the Salvation Army Band) music, we would feed the ducks on the lake.

I will always remember my dad telling me about the Storks, there were two of them at the gates one each side.
He used to say "when the storks heard the clocks strike 12mn they would come down to be fed" and me as a 4 or 5 year old believed him.
It is a long time since and I feel sad that I won't be seeing those Storks or my Dad again... All my best wishes and keep feeding the ducks for me.

Wishing you every success with C.H.a.T,hope you can get the park back to its former splendour ,so we may enjoy it again like we did many years ago.
I hope you get the support from the council you deserve, but when we have councils who wish to turn it into a sport's stadium for the Wakefield Wildcats  God Help You.

Best regards,

a 78 year old Wakefield lad

Congratulations on being up and running!

Your web-site looks good – very clear and well put together.

We had our wedding photographs taken in the park on 25th April 1998.
The rain poured down the the whole week prior to our wedding, and for the whole week afterwards, but on the day the sun was shining, the birds were singing and even some of the flowers managed to put in an appearance.
We got married in the registry office (not the best backdrop for wedding photos) so we popped in to the park on the way to the reception. We sat on the benches in the rose garden and had some beautiful pictures taken. We also had some taken under the trees.
Wakey park certainly looked good on that day.

I was really disappointed on my recent visit to the park, the path by the duck pond was filthy from the wild geese, which looked like it had never been cleaned and the Avairy looked as if it would fall down if it was touched.

Although it was nice to see all the amenities.
