Litter Picking in the Parks

We regularly hold litter picks in the parks; unfortunately not everyone is able to clean up after themselves but we still want a clean and tidy park.

We hope that people will notice the difference and the impact that they are making when dropping litter.

On Sunday 9th August in our first litter pick some 13 members of the Friends of Clarence, Holmfield and Thornes Parks spent a couple of hours helping to make the Parks look tidier. Starting from the Car Park at Stork Lodge entrance the members, armed with plastic sacks and litter pickers, worked their way around the Parks and collected about 25 sacks of rubbish and litter.

"We know that litter is a continuing problem, not just in the Parks, but we are grateful to the members who came along and did their bit to improve matters" said Chris Welch.

We intend to continue doing litter picks throughout the year and have monthly litter picks planned for the first sunday of each month with many planned to coincide with the brass band concerts held in collaboration with the Music Collective and Wakefield Council.

The park continues to look beautiful but it looks even better after the member’s hard work.

The next litter pick will be 10am at the Bandstand on Sunday 1st August.

You are welcome to join the group and help make it a fun, positive move to improve the parks.

We look forward to seeing you there
